Bridging Nations, Connecting Hearts is a reflection on seventy-five years of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Indonesia and the Swiss Confederation. The book combines archival exploration, academic literature, and lived experience.

Distinct from conventional diplomatic histories, this book places people-to-people diplomacy at its core. Alongside an examination of official milestones—beginning with the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1951, the state visit of President Sukarno, cooperation in vocational education, and the development of economic and cultural partnerships—the book highlights the often-unseen contributions of individuals, diaspora communities, educators, local staff, and cultural actors who have sustained the relationship over time.

The book is structured into four main chapters. Chapter I explores the historical roots of Indonesia–Switzerland relations from the nineteenth century, including the presence of Swiss diaspora in the Indonesian archipelago.

Chapters II and III cover the period from 1951 to 1994 in depth, presenting both Swiss and Indonesian perspectives, the development of diplomatic institutions, vocational education cooperation, and professional experiences within the Indonesian Embassy in Bern.

Chapter IV looks toward the future, addressing themes such as digital diplomacy, artificial intelligence, health innovation, ethics, and sustainability, including a philosophical manifesto on a shared Indonesia–Switzerland vision for human well-being.
