School-Based Management (SBM) with devolution of decision-making authority and responsibility to school level has become one of the most prominent features of public school management systems in most countries around the globe. Indonesian application SBM in early 2000s base on Law 22/1999 by which education was decentralized to the Provincial and District levels. Since the implementation of SBM in the early 2000s, there have been a number of books on Indonesian SBM. However, none of these provide a comprehensive coverage of the field based on theory, research and practice. This book is an attempt to bridge this gap. This book is the result of doctoral research project including an extensive review of theoretical and applied literature. The research was conducted at 42 primary schools in Ngada District in the island of Flores The chapter I of the book presents an overview of the book. The chapter II provides a comprehensive review of related literature on SBM with particular reference to the school systems which influenced the development of SBM in Indonesia. The chapter III provides theoretical concepts related to SBM and the changing patterns of school leadership. The chapter IV presents how SBM is considered as a step towards improving student achievements and implementation of SBM in Indonesia.
