About
Abiodun Egbetokun is Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation for Sustainable Development at De Montfort University, UK. He has a multidisciplinary background in engineering, management and economics. His research examines the microfoundations of innovation and entrepreneurship, with a strong emphasis on the empirical analysis and evaluation of science, technology and innovation (STI) systems in developing countries. His scholarship bridges theory, measurement and policy, with a particular focus on how knowledge, institutions and metrics affect development outcomes. He has published over 100 academic and policy outputs with more than 60 international co-authors. He was co-editor of Innovation Systems and Capabilities in Developing Regions: Concepts, Issues and Cases (Routledge, 2012) and Firm Level Innovation in Africa: overcoming limits and constraints (Routledge, 2019). Before joining De Montfort University, he was Deputy Director of Research at Nigeria’s National Centre for Technology Management (NACETEM), where he contributed to national policy projects. He has held research fellowships at the University of Oxford, UNU-MERIT, and the Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (CeSTII) in Cape Town. He was a Science Policy Fellow of the US National Science Foundation and is currently an Associate Fellow of the Academy of International Affairs, Bonn. He served as President of the Nigerian Young Academy from 2019 to 2021 and currently mentors early career researchers through the Rising Scholars Network, the Development Studies Association and AfricaLICS.
