Extensive scrutiny is being conducted into biometric recognition techniques to ensure fast and precise personal identification, especially due to increasing concerns regarding security and the need for increased mobility. Biometric recognition systems are a reliable method for identifying individuals in various systems, ensuring only authorized individuals can access certain services. This system uses human biometric features to authenticate or recognize an individual’s identity. The demand for biometric recognition systems is growing exponentially, driving extensive scrutiny and improvements to existing methods. Among several biometric characteristics, this scrutiny specifically focuses on the use of fingerprints as a biometric characteristic. This property helps prevent aging problems. In addition, fingerprints are very different, even identical twins do not have the same fingerprint characteristics. The proposed fingerprint matching algorithm has demonstrated superior performance. Despite the challenges in implementing the image enhancement process on a hardware platform, the proposed algorithm offers several advantages, including basic operations, low complexity, avoidance of floating-point calculations, easy hardware adaptation, and superior performance over existing methods.

This book outlines the steps of implementing fingerprint recognition algorithms on FPGA devices. This program consists of basic techniques for detecting minutiae points and matching them in two n-fingerprint templates. This strategy emphasizes the synthesis of devices or logic components as IP cores on FPGA devices without the need for soft processors, thus avoiding the development of soft processors.
