This first edition of Morphology; An Introduction is intended for students who have completed Phonetics and Phonology as the branches of Linguistics. It should be particularly useful for those students who may well reach the following subjects (Syntax and Semantics) in Linguistics field. The book is divided into twelve chapters. Each chapter contains some definitions and illustrative sentences. At the end of each chapter, there are some exercises in the form of questions for discussion.

Some linguists have given the definitions of morphology. Fromkin & Rodman (1988:152) say  morphology is the study of word formation and the internal structure of words. Matthews (1991:1) has another opinion about morphology. He states that morphology is branch of linguistics, which is concerned with the form of words or branch of grammar dealing with the internal structure of words. In line both definitions Mc. Manis (1987:117) defines  morphology as the study of how words are structured and how they are put together from smaller parts.  Summing up the definitions above, we can conclude that morphology is branch of linguistics dealing with the internal grammatical structure of words.  The central idea of morphology is as the component of a grammar that deals with the internal structure of words. Morphology deals with the internal structure of complex words. The words of any languages can be divided in two broad categories, closed and open (O‟Grady, 1989:90). The closed categories are the function words: pronouns like you and she: conjunctions like and, if, and because; determiners like a and the; and a few others. Newly borrowed and additional words cannot be added to these categories, which is why we say that they are closed. The open categories are in the major lexical categories: noun (Noun), verb (V), adjective (Adj.), and adverb (Adv). It is to these categories that new words may be added.
